Raccogliere nello sguardo l’isola dell’Asinara è un’occasione di agire in uno spazio di eccezione, dove la natura diventa prolungamento di una memoria comune.
Osservando questo lembo di terra si scopre una vera e propria archeologia dell’isolamento, della sezionatura e dell’attuazione riuscita di un distopico utilizzo dell’ambiente e della sua conformazione.
Il contrasto tra un paesaggio umanamente infinito e il suo confinamento non si limita alla sua posizione geografica ma continua tra le 10 diramazioni del suo ex-carcere immerse tra i lentischi, i ginepri e gli arbusti di euforbia.
Qui, i numerosi animali selvatici hanno condiviso nascostamente l’esistenza con i falsi vivi, quelli che hanno soggiornato in strutture dove la vita è diventata forma adattata, contenitore di violenze uniche e attese irripetibili e dove il mare dal 1997 è diventato di nuovo ponte.
Il Lungo Viaggio (Georg Vemess)
Sull’isola dell’Asinara, esattamente a Campu Perdu, c’era una statua intitolata “Il lungo viaggio”» scolpita dal prigioniero ungherese Georg Vemess e definita un’autentica opera d’arte.
Sulla base l’opera era scolpita ritraendo una folla di uomini nudi e disperati che ricordano le atroci sofferenze che gli ungheresi avevano subito durante la marcia nei Balcani, mentre nella parte superiore della scultura Vemess rappresentavav un eroe nudo: il trionfo della speranza, della solidarietà dei popoli e della vita. Purtroppo dal passaggio dall’amministrazione penitenziaria all’Ente parco la statua celebrativa è scomparsa.

Gathering an island like Asinara in the eye is an opportunity to act in an exceptional space, where nature becomes an extension of a common memory.
Looking at this strip of land we discover a real archeology of isolation, sectioning and the successful implementation of a dystopian use of the environment and its conformation.
The contrast between a humanly infinite landscape and its confinement is not limited to its geographical position but continues between the 10 branches of its former prison immersed among the lentisks, junipers and spurge shrubs.
Here, the numerous wild animals have hiddenly shared the existence with the false live, those who have stayed in structures where life has become an adapted form, a container of unique violence and unrepeatable expectations and where the sea since 1997 has become a bridge again.
The long journey (Georg Vemess)
On the island of Asinara, exactly in Campu Perdu, there was a statue entitled "The long journey" "carved by the Hungarian prisoner Georg Vemess and defined as an authentic artwork.
On the base the work was carved depicting a crowd of naked and desperate men who remember the atrocious sufferings that the Hungarians had suffered during the march in the Balkans, while in the upper part of the sculpture Vemess represented a naked hero: the triumph of hope, of solidarity of peoples and life. Unfortunately, the celebratory statue has disappeared from the prison administration to the Park authority.
