Mozambique is a little known nation compared to many other African countries. Its history was largely marked by Portuguese colonization, obtaining independence only at the price of a deep economic recession which still contributes to placing the country among the poorest in the world. In 2020 it was estimated that only 5% of the Mozambican population present in rural areas has access to electricity and the situation does not seem to improve in recent years.
The activities managed by AVSI, such as the ILUMINA project in M'Paca, are part of a series of projects which, working in rural areas, are able to have a significant impact on the population and on the culture linked to the value of women not only as mothers, but also as a vector of economy and new ideas and stimuli for the whole community. Understanding the impact of the diffusion of electricity in the rural areas of this country means understanding how much these small communities can offer to the overall development of the future of the nation.
Il Mozambico è una nazione poco conosciuta rispetto a molti altri paesi africani. La sua storia è stata in gran parte segnata dalla colonizzazione portoghese, ottenendo l'indipendenza solo al prezzo di una profonda recessione economica che ancora oggi contribuisce a collocare il paese fra i più poveri del mondo. Nel 2020 si è stimato che solo il 5% della popolazione mozambicana presente nelle aree rurali abbia accesso all’energia elettrica e la situazione non sembra migliorare in questi ultimi anni.
Le attività gestite da AVSI, come il progetto ILUMINA a M’Paca, fanno parte di una serie di progetti che lavorando su aree rurali, riescono ad avere un impatto significativo sulla popolazione e sulla cultura legata al valore della donna non solo come madre, ma anche come vettore di economia e di nuove idee e stimoli per tutta la comunità. Comprendere l’impatto della diffusione dell’energia elettrica nelle aree rurali di questo paese, vuol dire capire quanto queste piccole comunità possano offrire allo sviluppo complessivo del futuro della nazione.
